This movie inspired me to explore the multifaceted aspects of nursing and what this career has to offer. Everyday nurses help patients to make meaning out of chaos by working collaboratively to regain their independence and dignity. This movie emphasized the unique skill set nurses have in critical thinking and utilizing a systematic approach which employs us to be leaders no matter what role we are in. After watching this video, it is evident that lifelong learning is one of the greatest assets to the nursing profession. I have always been deeply fascinated by the innovative nature of science and I am so excited to combine compassionate care and science. I love learning new things that pertain to nursing and have found that staying current with evidence-based practice is a cornerstone of nursing. Nursing requires us to be innovative, pragmatic and flexible in our way of thinking because sometimes things will not go as planned. These inherent skills that we continuously develop make us great problem solvers. Nurses drive excellence in loving what we do, understanding the privilege of our profession and doing everything we can to provide comfort to patients in their most vulnerable moments. As nurses we have the power to implement change and hope in our patients which can have a profound impact on their life. Furthermore, it is our duty as nurses to take the time to practice self-care so we can care for patients in our fullest capacity.
In order to set myself apart from other applicants when preparing for job interviews I plan to research the organization’s mission and speak to how my personal career goals and life experiences align with and will contribute to the organization. I have a strong understanding of self in that I am a compassionate, team-player who is eager to learn and doesn’t shy from a challenge. I am cognizant of the fact that what is learnt in nursing school is not the same as working in the real world. With this knowledge and understanding I want to portray my gratitude for the opportunity to learn from experienced nurses. To highlight my strengths, I will speak to specific clinical experiences gained from the UNE Nursing Program and address these in my cover letter and during the interview. I will discuss clinical experiences in which I have utilized therapeutic communication in the clinical setting and how these skills further led to improving patient outcomes and promoting safety. Additionally, I will highlight clinical scenarios in which I engaged in teamwork that allowed me to further cultivate strong interpersonal and leadership skills. In doing so I will be able to highlight my capability of functioning as an active and contributory team member. Lastly, I will utilize specific clinical and stimulation experiences that have portrayed my ability to efficiently use clinical reasoning and critical thinking to effectively approach different scenarios.
