Art and Nursing

This is a painting by Marlyn Boyd. The core of nursing emphasizes the facilitation of healing, prevention of complications, and the promotion of health. In addition it also address psychosocial and spiritual needs of the patient. This painting symbolizes the care-based approach to nursing. Caring is central to the helping relationship between a nurse and patient. Through this approach patients are treated with dignity and respect. I chose this painting because I felt it reflects the kindness, attentiveness, empathy and compassion.

  2. Li’a, I love that you chose a painting that focuses on the caring part of nursing. You’re right, caring is definitely a central part of nursing and can help facilitate a healthy relationship between nurses and patients. I, too, see this painting as a reflection of how we as healthcare providers need to address our patient’s needs, from a physical aspect to a mental and emotional one as well.
