In Nurse Logic 1 I learned helpful strategies for my learning style that I will incorporate through my integration into nursing. I have always been a visual learner but struggled with the best strategies to facilitate my learning especially since beginning nursing school as the testing is based on critical thinking. After completing NL #1 I learned that sitting in front of the class to avoid visual obstructions and taking detailed notes are two improvements I can make to enhance my learning. I began implementing this in my classes shortly after learning about this and have noticed a significant increase in my ability to recall, understand and implement the knowledge I learned in class to case studies and NCLEX prep questions. Organizing my notes in an outline and then going back through and highlighting important words and rewriting my notes has improved my ability to utilize the information learned. I have also been integrating reviewing my notes daily and using NCLEX prep questions to test myself which has helped me to better improve my test taking strategies.

In Nurse logic 2 I learned about therapeutic communication and the importance it has in nursing. I learned that therapeutic communication is based on active listening, empathy, use of touch or respecting silence and clarification and summarizing client’s statements in a way that is most beneficial to the client. Every day we have conversations with people, however shifting the mindset to have a conversation for a therapeutic purpose is something that we as nurses must integrate into our practice. To integrate therapeutic communication skills into my nursing practice I have begun to practice using appropriate interviewing techniques to familiarize myself with the difference between a therapeutic conversation and a non-therapeutic conversation. Most importantly, to be aware that behind each diagnosis is a person and that is the center of care.
